Newsletter Week of 4/20

Dear Friend,

As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, I want to extend my warmest greetings to all of those celebrating Eid al-Fitr. Eid Mubarak!

My Statement On The Grand Jury’s Decision Not To Indict The Police Officer Who Unjustly Killed Timothy Johnson At Tysons Corner Center In February:

ICYMI: Reconvene Session in Richmond

Last week, I returned to Richmond for the General Assembly's reconvened session. We dealt with budget issues, considered bills that the Governor returned with amendments, and voted to sustain or override the Governor's vetoes. We re-enrolled 61 bills, for a total of 799 bills and 1 Constitutional Amendment from the 2023 General Assembly Session. We voted on important issues like intoxicating hemp products, utility rates, and others. You can find a summary of those votes here, and a full list of the legislation we considered here.

Re-election

I am officially the Democratic nominee in the new 12th House District! Check here to see if you’re in the new 12th District. And, if you are able, please consider donating to my campaign to help me get re-elected. With a new district comes new communities to connect with. Every dollar counts and will go directly to support our efforts to reach new voters and get our message out. It has truly been an honor to serve our community and represent your voices these last few months and I hope you will send me back to Richmond to do it again! The link to donate is: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/hollyseibold Thank you for your consideration!

Sierra Club Endorsement

I am proud to announce that the Virginia Sierra Club has endorsed my re-election campaign! Sierra Club is the nation's largest grassroots environmental organization. There are over 20,000 Virginia members that coordinate action to promote climate solutions & oppose policies that put the interests of polluters above the needs of communities.

I loved chatting with Sheri Shannon from the Women & Politics podcast last week! Check out the podcast and listen to archived shows with Sheri and Carol Olson at: https://womenpoliticsva.blog.

Dr. King's Letter from the Birmingham Jail

On the 60th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's Letter from the Birmingham Jail, my kids & I had the opportunity to meet Mrs. Willie King, who transcribed the letter which was written on newspaper edges, napkins, toilet paper, and whatever scraps of paper that Dr. King could find to write on.

We also had the opportunity to hear from faith leaders across the region who called for Racial Justice in the wake of another police shooting. Thank you Pastor Vernon Walton and First Baptist Church of Vienna for this beautiful opportunity to put words into action, just as MLK taught us.

FCPS Community Meeting on Fentanyl

From FCPS: Opioid overdoses are on the rise across the country, including in Fairfax County. Most fatal overdoses in Fairfax County in recent years involved fentanyl. Last month, FCPS hosted a conversation on the dangers of fentanyl. During this impactful event, audience members heard testimonials from individuals affected by the opioid epidemic, and learned facts from medical experts and law enforcement representatives. The conversation will continue on Monday, April 24, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Woodson High School. FCPS principals and staff will share what is happening in our schools, and give updates on the work to educate our students and prevent substance misuse. Transportation will be available from select schools throughout the county. View the registration page for details. Visit FCPS' Opioid Awareness webpage for more information. Visit the Fairfax County Government webpage on opioids for ways to take action and get help for yourself or loved ones. FCDC Endorsement Caucus

Democrats in Fairfax: Please be sure to register here to vote in the 2023 Endorsement Caucus for School Board! The deadline is May 5th, so please don’t wait! CD 11 Democrats Brunch
