Newsletter Week of 1/16/2023

Dear Friend,

We have officially completed our first full week of the 2023 Legislative Session! I was humbled and honored to have been elected to serve as your Delegate last Tuesday, and I will work hard to deliver for our community in Richmond. I’m excited to announce that I will be serving on the Public Safety Committee & The Communications, Technology and Innovation Committee.

My Bills

I'll be carrying a number of bills this Session, and I will make sure to update you as they make their way through the legislative process. You can check the status of all legislation on lis.virginia.gov.

  • HB 2402 - Requiring Medical Examiners to study Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), a devastating and all too common occurrence for the 84,000+ Virginians living with epilepsy

  • HB 2416 - Making booster seats and other child car restraints tax-free to support our working families

  • HB 2424 - Increasing access to interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing in civil proceedings

  • HB 2473 - Making Veterans benefits more accessible by providing a poster listing benefits to all employers in Virginia

I’m also proud to announce I will be co-patroning important legislation to continue providing universal school lunches, increase funding for teachers, prevent gun violence, make energy more affordable, and protect marriage equality, among other important pieces of legislation.

Meetings Held

During Session, I have the pleasure of meeting with various constituents, advocacy organizations, and interest groups to hear their thoughts and opinions on legislation and activities happening in the legislature. If you or an organization you represent would like to meet with me or a member of my staff, please reach out to us. We would love to hear from you.

Updates

After Tuesday’s election, I drove down to Richmond the next morning to be sworn in as your new Delegate. In the week and a half since, I have been meeting with constituents and advocates, and working hard to get to the business of legislating to improve the lives of the people of our Commonwealth.

Last Wednesday I was proud to have been sworn in as your new Delegate surrounded by new colleagues, and on Saturday, I was able to have a ceremonial swearing in surrounded by family and friends.

On Saturday, February 11th, at 9:00 am, I will be joining my colleague Senator Chap Petersen as well as Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert for a Town Hall to discuss our priorities for the Legislative Session. This will be your opportunity to hear directly from us, ask us questions about legislation affecting our community, and share your thoughts and opinions with us. We hope to see you there!

If my office can be of any service to you, please send an email to delhseibold@house.virginia.gov. Make sure to follow us on social media to receive updates throughout the year!

Yours in Service,

Holly Seibold

Delegate, 35th District
